INSANE
Here they are, the crazy bunch of Insane from Italia.
I rarely listened to a Demo that surprised me that much… this is one big
Bang in each minute, a sound that I missed and heard long time ago, one that
is played by noone today since the Gods Slayer made it famous on their “Show
no mercy”-Debut. Here we find Riffs that deserve to be called Metal and the
fantastic vocals fit perfectly to the aggressive sound. Bassist / Vocalist
Dan Montironi had a few strange but nevertheless very interesting answers
for us…
First, please tell a bit about Insane – who are the members, how long do
you play together etc.?
AT THE MOMENT INSANE IS LUKE PEROZZI GUITAR, MATT MONTIRONI DRUMS, DAN MONTIRONI
BASS AND VOCALS. WE PLAY TOGETHER SINCE 2001.
Your demo is fantastic, lots of energy and aggression, just how it should
be. How do you live with the Slayer-comparisons relating to “Show no mercy”-times?
By the way, I think there are worse things than to be compared
that way, for me it´s a compliment!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.. WE PLAY WHAT WE LIKE IN THE WAY WE LIKE, AND WE REALLY
DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY COMPARISON. I MEAN, IF WE REMIND PEOPLE OF SOME OTHER
BAND, IT’S NOT OUR MATTER.
I read that you are a very young Band, so how come the influences you have?
In my opinion they come from a time around the 80´s where only old
fuckers like us have been part of the original Speed-and Thrash-movement..
I think your example shows that even young guys can relate to times long
gone and check out the right stuff!
OUR INFLUENCES MAY COME FROM EVERYTHING IS AGGRESSVE, INTENSE AND WELL DONE.
YOU KNOW, NOTHING ABOUT ANY RECENT BAND. WE DETEST THE WHOLE PRESENT
METAL SCENE. WE HAVE A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW ABOUT WHAT METAL SHOULD BE
AND HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE. WE JUST WANT TO GIVE PEOPLE WHO THINK IN OUR SAME
WAY, A CHANCE TO CHOOSE
SOMETHING DIFFERENT. IT’S NOT A SOUND BELONGIN TO THE PAST; OLD BANDS BELONG
TO THE PAST. WE ARE YOUNG AND I GUESS OUR EXAMPLE SHOWS HOW THIS SOUND
IS FRESH AND ACTUAL.
You hail from Italy, a country that is well-known for all its Pseudo-Epic-Metal-Keyboard-on-speed-Poser-Metal.
With the music you play you should be outsiders there, am I right?
YES YOU ARE RIGHT. BUT DEFINITELY WE LIKE TO BE OUTSIDERS. THAT MEANS WE
ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING AHAHAH
What do you think about these Bands from Italy – don´t you think they
all sound the same? How are your chances to survive there and get a label-contract?
WELL, ITALY IS A BIG JOKE. ANY BAND FROM ITALY IS A BIG JOKE. NOTHING IS
REAL, IT’S ALL A MIMIC.
BACKWARD CULTURE, PROVINCIAL MENTALITY AND LIMITED VISION. IN ITALY DOES
NOT EXIST A REAL METAL SCENE. THE FACT IS THAT, BY THE USE OF FUCKIN COMPUTERS,
ANY IDIOT CAN RECORD HIS USELESS ALBUM AT HOME AND SOME LABEL TRIES TO EXPLOIT
IT. WE KNOW IT’S HARD TO SURVIVE HERE AND I MUST SAY WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO
SIGN FOR A GERMAN LABEL.
You plan to record an album in America, is that correct? Please tell about
your plans about that.
YES WE'RE GOING TO RECORD THE ALBUM AT THE GREENHOUSE STUDIOS IN VANCOUVER
ON JULY. WE HEARD CURRENCY CHANGE IS ADVANTAGEOUS AND CHICKS ARE ENTERPRISING
AHAHAH
How´s your experience playing live? As already told, you hail from
Italy and there seems to be no room for Speed-/Thrash-Bands there? Please
correct me if I´m wrong.
NO YOU ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT. AND I CAN TELL YOU MORE IN ITALY THERE'S NO
ROOM FOR ANYTHING.
What´s your general look upon the metal of today? Do you also listen
to stuff like Ensiferum, Finntroll, Darkane and all the new Thrash-Bands
emerging?
THE ROCK OF TODAY IS CRAP. ALSO THE METAL OF TODAY IS CRAP. SINCERELY I HAVEN’T
LISTENED TO ANYTHING CAPABLE TO ATTRACT MY ATTENTION FROM 10 YEARS. I THINK
NOWADAYS BANDS HAVE LOST A SORT OF ATTITUDE.
I think the most important thing for our readers is to know if they can buy
the demo – if so, please advise re price and contact-information.
I’M SORRY BUT THE DEMO IS NOT FOR SALE. ANYWAY THE ALBUM SHOULD BE OUT SOON
SO KEEP AN EYE ON IT!
Any final words to Mortal Sin-readers?
FINGER UP YOUR BACK BUNCH OF ASSHOLES
Yep, right between the eyes. In my oppinion all the provoking statements
should raise even more interest in the Band and even though we don´t
know when the album comes out and on which label (I should have asked…) you
should keep Insane in mind and check out these pages regularly – if we know
something about the album we´ll getthe bloody thing it and write about
it at once.
